I just attended Miko Sayo's seminar regarding technical analysis yesterday and all I can say is majority of who attend are already in their late 30's to 50's and I am one of the 3 youngest who attend this seminar. Anyhow, my knowledge with the stock market increased. I learned a lot.
Main reasons why I want to learn T.A.:
1. I'll apply most of the T.A approches on the highly volatile sector in PSE -- oil & mining.
2. I want to develop my entry & exit strategies to cut my losses.
3. I am too lazy to digg the information and analyze those data from the annual reports. The basic approach of fundamental analysis is to look for a stock that are undervalued meaning a security is trading lower to its true price. If I want to go for long term, I'll consider on investing on blue chips... specifically those that are listed on PSEi index.
Some key pointers that I've learned in the seminar:
1. Market action discounts everything
2. Price moves in trend, hence trend is your friend
3. History repeats itself
4. When it's uptrend buy. When it's in a downtrend sell. Don't trade or trade w/in the range during sideways
Before my strategy was to buy during downtrend, that is when everything was at its low price and sell when the price appreciates. I've got frustrated when I bought a share that was selling at its low price then suddenly it price drops again. Until now I haven't recovered from that loss :(
5. Understand the direction of the trend. Moving average (MA) is one of the famous trend-following indicators
6. Measure the rate at which a body of data rise or fall, that is what oscillators are made. Widely used oscillators are stochastics, relative strength (RSI) and moving average convergence and divergence (MACD). Master at least 1.
7. Know if it is uptrend, downtrend or sideways. Know the trend. Tools being used here are bollinger bands, average directional movement index (ADX) and vertical horizontal filter.
8. Know how strong the trend is. This is where volume indicator comes in.
9. Know how strong or weak are the market internals. This tells you the direction of the market itself and not particular security.
Next week, Miko will be teaching japanese candlesticks and elliot wave principle. So stay tuned.
